This Cookie Notice explains how charactr uses cookies and similar technologies on charactr.com and the web application at charactr.xyz. The iOS App does not use web cookies; it uses platform-provided storage governed by Apple's frameworks and our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. "Similar technologies" include browser local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, and pixel tags that perform comparable functions. We refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this Notice.

2. The cookies we use

2.1 Strictly necessary

Required for the Service to function. Cannot be disabled without breaking the Service.

  • Session and authentication — keep you logged in.
  • Security — CSRF tokens, abuse prevention.
  • Preferences — language, theme.

2.2 Performance and analytics

Help us measure aggregate use of the Service so we can improve it. Loaded only after you accept on your first visit (where consent is required by law).

  • Self-hosted analytics — anonymous, aggregated metrics about feature use.
  • Crash and error reporting — diagnostic information when something breaks.

2.3 Third-party services we load

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) — typography. May set cookies as part of font delivery.
  • Stripe (js.stripe.com) — fraud prevention and payment session continuity on the Web App.
  • Supabase — backend authentication and data services on the Web App.
  • OpenAI / xAI / ElevenLabs / Seedance and other AI providers — invoked at the moment of generation; see our AI Providers & Disclosure.

We do not use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your information for advertising purposes.

3. Your choices

  • You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will break the Service.
  • You can opt out of analytics cookies via the cookie banner shown on your first visit (where required) or by contacting privacy@character.app.
  • You can use a Global Privacy Control ("GPC") signal in supported browsers; we honor GPC for the categories required by California law.

4. Do Not Track

Many browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no industry consensus on how to interpret DNT, we do not currently respond to DNT signals. We do honor the Global Privacy Control signal where required by law.

5. Changes

We will update this Notice when our cookie practices change. Material changes are announced on the Service.
