Common questions

Is charactr really free?

Yes. The iOS app is free to download. You can cast characters, direct scenes, and generate AI films right away. Some advanced features may be offered on paid plans in the future; current plan details are shown in-app.

What does charactr do?

charactr is an AI film studio for talking AI characters. You build persistent characters, write what they say and do, and the studio generates voice-acted, cinematic AI scenes. It is not a chatbot or companion app — see our FAQ for the difference.

How do I delete my account?

Open the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account, and confirm. Your account and content are queued for deletion immediately. If you cannot access the in-app flow, email privacy@character.app from the address on file with subject DELETE MY ACCOUNT. Full retention details are in the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete a single character or scene?

Open the character or scene in your library and use the delete option in the more-actions menu. Deletes are immediate; backups age out within 30 days.

How do I report a problem with another user's content?

Email rights@character.app with the report type in the subject line — LIKENESS, TRADEMARK, COPYRIGHT, MINOR-SAFETY, NCII, VOICE, ELECTION, or OTHER — and a link or in-app identifier for the content. See DMCA & IP Reporting for full instructions.

I need a refund for an App Store purchase

App Store purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the charactr purchase, and select "Request a refund." Refund decisions are made by Apple under their policy.

I'm not getting expected results / generations look wrong

Outputs are AI-generated and may include mistakes, hallucinations, or unintended resemblances. Try re-prompting with more detail (specific shot, mood, line of dialogue, voice direction) or pick a different scene template. If the issue persists, send the prompt and the generated output to support@character.app with subject BUG.

Where is my data stored, and what about Europe?

charactr operates from the United States. Personal data may be transferred internationally with appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses 2021, UK IDTA, Swiss FDPIC). Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

What third-party AI does charactr use?

charactr generates content via a routed mix of third-party providers including video, voice, speech-to-text, language, and image foundation models. The full named list and what is sent to each is on the AI Providers & Disclosure page. The active provider used for each generation is surfaced in-app at the point of generation per Apple App Review Guideline 5.1.2(i).

I'm a developer — how do I get API access?

Email developers@character.app with subject API EARLY ACCESS. We're shipping a Character Passport API in 2026 for verifying canonical character identity, rights, and provenance.
